| Job Description | Job Title: Senior Estimator
Reporting to: Estimating Manager
Main Purpose: To provide a professional and efficient estimating service for all projects tendered for our Client, ensuring that contracts can be won to meet the overall business and financial objectives of the Company.
Key Tasks: The following reflect the main tasks associated with your position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive.
· Implement the strategy and systems of the Company, ensuring tenders are undertaken and prepared to the high standards that the Company reputation demands. · Lead the production and take responsibility for all aspects of the tender compilation. · Provide a professional approach to all stages of the bid management process, including estimating, tender submission & bid negotiation. · Ensure that the bid is evaluated from ‘first principles' and presented clearly to Management in terms of method, engineering and ‘build-ability'. · Tender to be produced accurately reflecting the true cost of labour, plant, materials and sub-contracts, for both direct and in-direct costs. · Work and liaise closely with other members of the Estimating team, including Contracts Managers, Commercial Managers and Services in the estimation of contracts, ensuring that the Company's pricing policies are utilised to optimise profitability. · Preparation of the Tender Submission is to be completed to the requirements of the client and prepared and submitted within the deadlines specified. · Present each Tender at the Tender Review to Senior Management in sufficient detail to demonstrate confidence in the bid and gain approval to submit the bid. · Attend tender meetings to represent the Company and liaise with clients throughout the tender process. · Review all tender submissions including unsuccessful bids, ensuring that any problems are identified and solutions proposed and implemented. · Where applicable, work alongside Joint Venture partners ensuring a professional estimating service is provided which meets the Company's requirements. · Any other responsibilities as required by the job function, ensuring the efficient and profitable operation of the business.
Key Relationships: · Develop and maintain good working relationship with the Estimating Manager and Divisional Managing Director, particularly ensuring that progress relating to the estimating function is regularly relayed. · Build effective working relationships with the other Client Senior Management team, both at head office and throughout the various geographical regions within which the company operate. · As in all successful businesses, the instigation of good customer, client and supplier relationships are an essential part of the tendering process.
Main Challenges: · Handling varied and diverse information and ensuring that the pre-qualification and estimating processes are thoroughly completed and submitted within required deadlines, to meet the objectives of the Company. · Building and maintaining effective working relationships with a diversity of internal and external contacts, ensuring that these are used in a professional manner to promote the reputation of the Company. · Ensuring throughout the process of pre-qualification, tender submission, project duration and final account, that the client reports the highest level of satisfaction, thus promoting the company and winning additional work.
Key Skills: · Minimum of 2 years estimating or quantity surveying experience gained within professional civil engineering. · Exposure to the bid and tender process for large (£1m-£250m) civil engineering contracts. · Have an excellent track record of achievement within a related role, from a background in Site Engineering, Site Management or Quantity Surveying. · Strong interpersonal skills. · Strong IT skills covering Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Estimating Software etc · Meet deadlines, delegate effectively within the team and work to strict timescales · Fully flexible regarding travel, prepared to travel to site locations.

DETAIL HANDLING - Tolerance for and ability to handle the details and paperwork associated with the job. INITIATIVE - Actively influencing events rather than passively accepting; sees opportunities and acts on them. Originates action or ideas.
