Our client is one of the leading Architectural Metalwork companies in the UK. Due to an increase in their workload and a general expansion of their business in the London area, they are currently seeking to recruit a high caliber QS to join their highly successful team. The ideal applicant should have 5 years + experience working as a QS and must have 3+ years within a subcontract environment. Any experience in network rail or the railway infrastructure would be advantageous for this role. Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor Reporting to: General Manager Operations Location: London based (3-5 days per week) KEY RESPONSIBLITIES: - Site based position - actively monitor site progress; review constraints & pursue ‘change'
- Monitor incoming Site Instructions and distribute to Team
- Pursue outstanding Site Instructions
- Attend Client Progress and Design meetings to monitor for ‘change'
- Prepare quotations for Site Instructions and potential variations
- Meet the client on a regular basis to review, negotiate and agree the variation account as the project progresses
- Prepare and submit monthly / regular applications
- Organise vesting visits as required
- Negotiate and maximize interim payments
- Prepare monthly Project CVR report for submission to the Board
- Prepare and submit post contract and final accounts
- Prepare and submit fully substantiated claims for extensions of time and additional costs where appropriate
- Seek quotations from subcontractors for specialist works
- Review subcontract quotations, select best value subcontractor, negotiate contract terms and appoint subcontractor
- Monitor subcontract progress and assess interim payments
- Negotiate final payments to sub-contractors while first ensuring complete clearance of all defects
- Make monthly reports to company Finance Director as required to monitor the cost and profitability of all ongoing contracts.
- Advise of all known risks in any project proposals, take steps where necessary to minimise all exposure to risk by utilisation of third party professional advice, insurance and such like.

To carry out any other duties as required by Management. Person Spec: - Degree in Quantity Surveying
- Chartered status (RICS or MCIOB)
Experience: - Minimum 10 year experience working in a subcontracting environment
- Sound knowledge of all basic contracts used in the construction industry at present
Job Knowledge:
- Must be used to working for a subcontractor opposite main contractors
- Must be a hands on Senior QS who is used to being site based
- Sound knowledge of all basic contracts used in the construction industry at present
- Good commercial acumen and ability to identify opportunities for profitable business development and performance improvement.
- Knowledge of an engineering environment.
- LUL experience.
- CSCS skills card.
- Experience of Network Rail would be advantageous.
Skills:
- Microsoft Office to include Microsoft Word and Excel, E-mail and Internet use.
- Excellent Communication skills both orally and written
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and use own initiative to problem solve, utilise resources and take action to meet objectives and targets
- Ability to work as part of a Team from Director level through to Sub-contractor level
- Be able to demonstrate experience in dealing with clients and have well-honed negotiating and influencing ability
- Microsoft Access

Salary is £40 to £50k plus a flight and accommodation allowance.
